ScottEffx, brought to life by Scott Burkhart Effects LLC in 2014, is a pioneering venture where we, Scott and his team, aim to revolutionize the art of light shows. The journey began in 2012 when Scott Burkhart, an Engineer, and Laser Scientist at a prominent government lab in Livermore, embarked on this innovative path fueled by his fascination with Christmas music light show. Inspired by televised competitions showcasing animated Christmas displays, we sought to bring more imaginative compositions and quicker light responses to the world of light shows. Our pursuit led us to embrace LED string lights, replacing conventional incandescent light strings. Over the years, our design has evolved organically, seamlessly integrating light shows with Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) MIDI tracks. We employed Apple's Audio MIDI Setup tools to facilitate direct MIDI communication between the DAW and our light show app on Macintosh. Our heart lies in its synergy of MIDI Note-On events and short light show 'Effects,' resulting in intuitive and captivating compositions. We devised a method to record or 'bounce' the light show onto an MP3's ID3 tag, enabling its publication and widespread use. Recognizing the need for a simulator, we developed one, integrated into the free Macintosh software. This simulator empowers light show developers to decorate scenes using light strings on separate image layers, offering a realistic preview without requiring physical lights or decorations.
